Struggling to pinpoint Where Is Halsin in Baldur’s Gate 3? You’re definitely not alone. Many players find themselves in the same predicament after being tasked by the Tieflings in the Emerald Grove to rescue the First Druid from the Goblin Camp. The game’s waypoint for this quest can be misleading, leading you to wander around Halsin’s actual location numerous times without realizing it.
This guide will clearly explain where to find Halsin and, crucially, how to recruit him to bolster your Baldur’s Gate 3 party.
Navigating to the Goblin Camp

The Goblin Camp is your first destination. It’s situated near the windmill in the Blighted Village, where you might have previously encountered and freed Barcus Wroot. Once you arrive at the Goblin Camp, your goal is to locate the imposing, heavy doors that mark the entrance to the Shattered Sanctum. Look for the large goblin guard near these doors, often yelling at a chicken – this landmark can help you orient yourself.
Race can play a role in your initial entry. Drow characters, for example, often find it easier to navigate the camp and enter the Sanctum with minimal resistance. If you’re not playing as a Drow, remember that freeing Sazza the goblin earlier in the Emerald Grove can significantly ease your passage into the Goblin Camp. This prior action can act as your ‘in’ with the goblins.

After entering the Shattered Sanctum, proceed until you spot the priestess Gut. From there, turn right and search for a precarious wooden bridge extending to your right. Cross this bridge, and you’ll see a door guarded by three goblins and a rat. Pass through this door to enter the Worg Pens.
Upon entering the Worg Pens, if you possess the “speak with animals” spell or potion, now is the perfect time to use it. Look to the right side of the room, and you’ll notice a bear caged amongst several goblins. If you can communicate with animals, the bear will plead with you: “Stop them. Free me.”
This bear is, in fact, Halsin. You can now engage in dialogue, using Illithid Wisdom or standard Wisdom dialogue choices to attempt to free him. You have options ranging from intimidating the goblins to release the bear, encouraging them to continue their torment, or directly engaging them in combat.
If you choose to free Halsin, you’ll face a crucial decision. You can attack the goblins, turn against Halsin, or abandon him to his captors. If, like many players aiming to protect the Emerald Grove and side with Halsin, you choose to attack the goblins, be prepared for a fight.
Once the battle concludes, Halsin will revert to his true form and reveal crucial information about the tadpoles in your party’s heads, linking them to cultists in Moonrise Towers. He will also offer to temporarily join your party to combat Minthara, the Drow goblin leader, the hobgoblin Dror Ragzlin, and Priestess Gut. Be warned, Halsin makes it clear that this path involves confronting the entire goblin leadership and their forces.
Ultimately, discovering Halsin marks a significant crossroads. You must decide whether to defend the Emerald Grove and align with Halsin, or to join the Drow leader in her conquest for the Absolute. Choosing to protect the grove will lead to Halsin appearing at your camp later, where you can officially recruit him as a permanent companion.
