Are you lost trying to find Halsin in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)? You’re definitely not alone. Many players find themselves searching for the First Druid after the Tiefling encounter at the Emerald Grove, tasked with rescuing him from the goblin camp. The game’s waypoint can be misleading, and it’s easy to miss his actual location even after multiple passes.
This guide will clearly point you to Halsin’s location and, crucially, explain how you can recruit him to your party in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Navigating to the Goblin Camp in BG3

First, you need to reach the Goblin Camp. This location is situated near the windmill in the Blighted Village, where you might have already freed Barcus Wroot. Once you arrive at the Goblin Camp, your goal is to find the Shattered Sanctum. Look for a prominent entrance with large, imposing doors. You’ll likely notice a goblin near the entrance, loudly harassing a chicken – a memorable landmark to guide you.
Your approach to entering the Shattered Sanctum can vary. Playing as a Drow character offers a significant advantage, allowing you to easily walk through the camp and into the Sanctum with minimal trouble. However, other races might face more resistance. If you previously aided Sazza the goblin in the Emerald Grove, this could smooth your entry into the Goblin Camp, regardless of your race.
Halsin’s Location within the Shattered Sanctum
Once inside the Shattered Sanctum, you’ll need to navigate further to pinpoint Halsin’s exact location.

Continue through the Shattered Sanctum until you encounter Priestess Gut. From her location, turn right and search for a rickety wooden bridge extending to the right. Cross this bridge, and you’ll see a door guarded by a few goblins and a rat. Proceed through this door, and you will find yourself in the Worg Pens.

Upon entering the Worg Pens, if you possess the ‘Speak with Animals’ spell or potion, it’s highly recommended to use it. Look to the right side of the room, and you’ll see a bear among some goblins. If you can communicate with animals, the bear will directly speak to you, pleading, “Stop them. Free me.”

This bear is, in fact, Halsin. Now you have several choices to make. You can use Illithid or Wisdom dialogue options to attempt to free him immediately. Alternatively, you could provoke the goblins to continue their torment, or directly engage them in combat.
If you choose to free Halsin, you will be presented with further options: attack the goblins, attack the bear itself (not recommended!), or leave the bear to its fate. To align with the Tieflings and rescue Halsin, choosing to attack the goblins is the logical step.

After defeating the goblins, the bear will transform back into Halsin. He will then reveal crucial information about the tadpoles and the cultists at Moonrise Towers. At this point, Halsin can be recruited to your party, although he will warn you that siding with him means engaging in a large-scale battle against Minthara, Dror Ragzlin, Priestess Gut, and the entire goblin camp.
Ultimately, your decision rests on whether you want to protect the Emerald Grove and Halsin, or side with the goblin leaders. If you choose to defend the grove, Halsin will appear at your camp later, ready to officially join your party as a valuable companion.
