Larval Tears are invaluable items in Elden Ring for players looking to respec their characters. In simpler terms, these items allow you to redistribute all the attribute points you’ve accumulated through leveling up. This is incredibly useful for experimenting with different builds, correcting early stat allocation mistakes, or adapting your character for new challenges in the game.
Using a Larval Tear lets you completely rebuild your character’s stats, consuming one tear in the process. Since Larval Tears are finite resources in Elden Ring, it’s wise to use them thoughtfully. However, for most players who aren’t constantly respeccing, the game provides enough Larval Tears to rectify significant errors or adjust your build as needed. This guide will detail all the locations where you can find Larval Tears, ranging from easily accessible to more challenging encounters.

Larval Tear Enemy Drops: Transformation Encounters

Many Larval Tears in Elden Ring are obtained by defeating enemies that dramatically transform during combat. These enemies often start as seemingly ordinary foes, only to morph into much stronger beings when you engage them or upon nearing defeat.
These transformation enemies offer a single Larval Tear each and do not respawn, making each encounter a one-time opportunity.
Location | Initial Enemy | Transformation | How To Locate |
---|---|---|---|
Limgrave | Wandering Noble | Runebear | From the Agheel Lake South Site of Grace, travel east. The Wandering Noble is easily identifiable; he stands alone and motionless at the cliff’s edge. |
Liurnia of the Lakes | Giant Crayfish | Grafted Scion | Near the Folly on the Lake Site of Grace, head north to find a group of four Giant Crayfish. Only one of these crayfish will be active and alert – this is the one that transforms and drops the Larval Tear. |
Caelid Waypoint Ruins | Wandering Noble | Troll | Locate this Wandering Noble in the graveyard south of the Caelid Highway South Site of Grace and west of the Cathedral of Dragon Communion. |
Minor Erdtree (Altus Plateau) | Wandering Noble | Lion Guardian | Find this Wandering Noble within the ruins east of the Minor Erdtree in Altus Plateau. A good starting point is the Windmill Village Site of Grace, heading south from there. |
Minor Erdtree (Consecrated Snowfield) | Wandering Noble | Runebear | Southeast of the Inner Consecrated Snowfield Site of Grace, you’ll find three Wandering Nobles grouped together. The one that transforms into a Runebear is partially buried in the snow. |
Mt. Gelmir | Putrid Corpse | Wormface | In the encampment directly adjacent to the Road of Iniquity Site of Grace. The specific Putrid Corpse is distinguished by being on fire. |
Be warned: many of these transforming enemies present a significant challenge. Ensure you’re not carrying a large number of runes that you risk losing upon defeat.
Besides transforming enemies, certain foes consistently drop Larval Tears. These are primarily the Silver Sphere enemies – those large, rolling ball-shaped creatures known for their surprising speed and aggression.
You can find one Silver Sphere in Nokron, Eternal City, and three more in Nokstella, Eternal City. Each Silver Sphere will drop a Larval Tear the first time you defeat it. While these enemies respawn, they will not drop additional Larval Tears on subsequent kills.
Additionally, defeating the Mimic Tear boss in Nokron, Eternal City, will reward you with two Larval Tears. Note that the Mimic Tear boss in the Haligtree does not drop Larval Tears.
For challenging encounters like the Runebear in Limgrave, remember that summoning points are often nearby, allowing you to use Spirit Ashes to aid in combat. Choose your summons strategically, considering the transformed enemy’s strengths and weaknesses.

Purchasing Larval Tears: Merchant Locations
Elden Ring Larval Tear purchased from Pidia in Caria Manor
For those preferring a less combative approach, Larval Tears can also be purchased from specific merchants in Elden Ring:
- Pidia, Carian Servant in Caria Manor: To access Pidia, you must first complete Caria Manor and defeat Royal Knight Loretta. After defeating Loretta, exit her boss arena and proceed left. Utilize the platforms to descend into a lower section of the manor, where you’ll find Pidia.
- Nomadic Merchant in Siofra River: This merchant is located in Siofra River, close to the area’s brazier puzzle. To reach him, ascend the scaffolding in the central area and navigate across to the connected caves. Listen for his distinct merchant hum, which will likely guide you to his location.
Each Larval Tear purchased from these merchants costs 3,000 runes.
Larval Tear Loot Locations: Item Pickups
Elden Ring Larval Tear found in Village of the Albinaurics graveyard
Several Larval Tears are available as lootable items scattered throughout the Lands Between:
- Village of the Albinaurics (Liurnia of the Lakes): The earliest accessible Larval Tear is found in the graveyard within the Village of the Albinaurics. This village is located beneath the large landmass in southwest Liurnia of the Lakes.
- Nokron, Eternal City (Post-Radahn Limgrave): Two Larval Tears can be found in Nokron. To reach Nokron, you must defeat Starscourge Radahn and descend into the crater that forms in Limgrave afterward.
- One Larval Tear is located within the buildings near the Nokron, Eternal City Site of Grace. Be cautious of the strong enemies patrolling this area.
- The second is found just before the Mimic Tear boss arena, inside a small structure where Silver Tears are constantly falling from above. Approach with caution.
- Caria Manor Graveyard (Painting Quest Reward): Completing a specific painting quest also rewards a Larval Tear. First, acquire the Resurrection Painting from the Artist’s Shack, situated north of the Carian Study Hall entrance, near a Site of Grace. With the painting in your inventory, find the ghost in the graveyard north of Caria Manor (accessible after defeating Royal Knight Loretta). Speaking to the ghost while possessing the painting will grant you a Larval Tear.
How to Respec Your Character with Larval Tears
Once you’ve gathered Larval Tears, you’ll need to know how to respec your character. This process is unlocked after defeating Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon, the boss of the Academy of Raya Lucaria. After defeating her, you can interact with Rennala in the Raya Lucaria Grand Library to either alter your character’s appearance or respec your stats.
Each respec requires one Larval Tear and follows a few key rules:
- Level Preservation: Your character level remains unchanged. You must redistribute the same total number of attribute points that you currently possess. For instance, if you are level 80, you must allocate 80 points.
- Base Stat Limits: You cannot reduce any stat below its starting value for your chosen class. You cannot lower a stat below its initial level to gain extra points for other attributes.
After you’ve adjusted your stats to your liking, selecting “confirm” finalizes your choices and consumes a Larval Tear.
