For years, I kept hearing about “The Equalizer” and, for some reason, kept putting it off. Finally watching it, I have to apologize to everyone who recommended it – this movie is absolutely fantastic, and I was hooked from the very beginning.
Right from the first 20 minutes, “The Equalizer” grabs you. You’re quickly introduced to the characters, you get a sense of where the story is going, and it reels you in instantly. From that point on, it’s an incredibly intense and suspenseful ride. What really stood out was the purposeful nature of every scene. There’s no unnecessary fluff, no filler scenes that go nowhere. Everything contributes to the story, a quality that’s increasingly rare in modern action films. And the suspense? It was incredible, keeping me on the edge of my seat, constantly guessing what would happen next.
The characters are another strong point. Denzel Washington’s portrayal isn’t just the typical action hero archetype who mindlessly shoots his way through enemies. There’s a depth and complexity to his character that makes him much more engaging. If you’re a fan of John Wick, you’ll definitely feel a similar vibe with the main character in “The Equalizer,” which is a huge compliment.
One minor point – I wished we had seen more of Elena/Teri. I felt her character had untapped potential for deeper exploration. My only real criticism would be that the villain’s motivations weren’t fully explained, or at least not very clearly. Perhaps I missed something, but the extent of his “evilness” felt a little underdeveloped.
Despite that minor point, I thoroughly enjoyed watching “The Equalizer” and I’m already planning to watch “The Equalizer 2” as soon as possible. If you’re looking for a top-notch action thriller, I wholeheartedly recommend this film. It’s a solid 8/10 for me.
